Local and area government offices may be closed today (Monday 10/13).  It's Columbus Day -- one of several holidays observed by federal offices and banks, including the U.S. Postal Service.  No mail delivery today.  Schools are closed. Citizens are urged to call ahead before venturing out to do business.

Fatal Crash in Kankakee County --

A car vs motorcycle crash Sunday left one person dead.  No details available. Illinois State Police indicated it happened shortly before 10 am on Route 17 West near 3120 W Road.  The route was closed for the investigation.

Harassment Arrest in Watseka --

44-year-old Billy Turner of Watseka was charged with disorderly conduct after an arrest by Watseka Police Sunday.  Police reported an employee was harassed while delivering food to a customer on W. Walnut Street.  The suspect, Turner, was located by officers on E. Mulberry and taken to the County Jail without incident. 

Martinton man arrested after hit & run --

62-year-old James Conrad reportedly became argumentive and got physical with officers after he was confronted about an accident in the 1700-block of E. Walnut Street.  On routine patrol, a city officer witnessed a hit & run accident in a parking lot.  When questioned aboutnthe accident, Conrad allegedly denied striking the vehicle, then when ordered out of his vehicle, he became aggressive with the officersand lunged at officers when placed under arrest.  Conrad was then charged with aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest.
