IDOT: Lanes reopening where possible for Independence Day holiday travel

Non-emergency closures suspended, work zones still plentiful across the state

The Illinois Department of Transportation is reopening, where possible, construction zones during the Independence Day holiday to minimize travel disruption.  Non-emergency closures will be suspended from 3 pm Thursday, July 3, to 11:59 pm Sunday, July 6.

Motorists should be aware certain lane closures will remain in place during the holiday weekend. The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through these areas. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones.  Drivers need obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and stay alert for workers and equipment. At all times, drivers must buckle up and drive sober.
