Parkland College will be hosting a countywide celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this month. Sunday, January 18, the celebration will start at 5 pm at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in Urbana. Illinois State Representative Carol Ammonswill serve as keynote speaker.
Three community members will be honored with awards in recognition of their work to uphold the principles and ideals of Dr. King.
The award recipients include:
• Dr. Jeffery Trask – James R. Burgess, Jr./Susan Freiburg Humanitarian Award
• Dr. Stephanie Cockrell – Doris Hoskins Prestigious Community Service Award
• Martel Miller – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Outstanding Achievement Award
Doors open at 4 pm and the community choir begins 4:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
