- The IHSA has suspended Jordan Lynch and put Mount Carmel's football program on probation after a rules violation. The Chicago Sun Times reports it comes after the team practiced in full pads earlier than state rules allow. According to the IHSA, Mount Carmel self-reported the violation on August 12 and “provided a corrective action plan and self-imposed sanctions.” The IHSA accepted the sanctions.

- Barring rainouts, ESPN reports the World Series will end in October for just the second time since 2020. The Fall Classic will start on Oct. 23 and Game 7 would be on Oct. 31. The World Series ended in November in 2001, '09, '10, '15, '16, '17, '21, '22, '23 and '25, going as late as Nov. 5 in 2022. Click here for more details.

- The Los Angeles Lakers are being sold to American businessman Josh Kushner and Bob Iger for a record breaking price over $12 billion, multiple sources told ESPN. Kushner and Iger were involved in the expansion process in Las Vegas, but a stunning turn, they pivoted to make an aggressive offer to buy the Lakers from Mark Walter, who had purchased a controlling interest in the team from the Buss family last year.

- WNBA task force met Wednesday to discuss transgender athletes but did not arrive at any eligibility rules.

- No decision was made Monday on a future CFP model, and the idea of a 20-team model is not being evaluated right now.

- The NFL will allow head coaches to designate a member of their sideline staff to initiate replay challenges this season.
