A couple waves of severe weather roared through the listening-area in just a couple of hours Monday.  The first rounds brought wind and heavy rain, as well as a couple of tornado warnings along with it, just after noon. Hail was reported in far SW suburbs with the first round, with downed trees in Kankakee and Manteno.  A gas station canopy partially collapsed in Frankfort.

A second wave of storms came along between 3 - 4:30 pm, bringing with it another tornado warning. Sirens sounded in several cities/towns according to the National Weather Service.  Large hail stones were collected by citizens.  Trees and power lines were down.  ComEd and NIPSCO crews were busy restoring service to customers. 

Parts of Kankakee, Will, and Iroquois County received “tennis ball-sized hail.”  The NWS recorded high winds (70 mph), bringing down trees and power lines.

Clean-up detail is underway.  NWS damage assessment teams will be surveying the damaged areas.
