Watseka Police promoting Officers

                                              Lt. Mark Harris to serve as Deputy-Chief

The Watseka City Council is meeting in Special Session this (Thurs) evening. A 6 pm meeting is scheduled.

Police Chief Eric Starkey is expected to name Lt. Mark Harris as Deputy-Chief of Police, effective September 12. Harris is the department’s canine handler and served as interim-Chief, prior to Starkey’s hiring as the department’s new leader.

Starkey‘s appointment to the chief’s role followed the retirement of former chief Jeremy Douglas.

Chief Starkey told the City Council (Tuesday) he’s gained the confidence of his department’s staff during his four months on the as chief. He also thanked the Council for its vote of confidence in him as chief. Starkey assured the City Council the department is moving forward in the right direction.

Also – at the Special Meeting, Sgt. Curtis Marcott will be sworn-in as Lt. Marcott, effective Friday, September 12.

Michael Yates will also be sworn-in as a new (Lateral) Police Officer, effective Friday. Yates had served as a City Officer in the past, rejoining the department in a lateral move.
