Two drivers were killed as a result of a fiery two-vehicle crash that occurred during the noon hour Tuesday in Newton County, IN. Both victims have not been identified. The accident occurred just past 11:30 am at Coun ty Roads 50 E and CR 1550 S.
The accident scene is east of Kentland on South Newton County School Road.
Newton County Sheriff Shannon Cothran reports witness accounts and the police investigation showed a passenger vehicle driven by a 73-year-old Goodland man was westbound on County Road 1550 S when he failed to yield at an intersection to a southbond semi-trailer driven by a 21-year-old Hartford City, IN man. The collision caused the truck to veer off the road where it overturned and became engulfed in flames. The semi driver was killed. The driver of the passenger car was transported to a local hospital. He too died of injuries sustained in the crash, according to the sheriff.
The names of both men are being withheld pending notification of family.
