Texas truck driver to face federal charges for cocaine traffic case in Iroquois County

The arrest of a Houston, TX man in Iroquois County for transporting cocaine/fetanyl now finds the case in the hands of federal prosecutors.  45-year-old Juan Carlos Oliva Lopez was transferred to the Jerome Combs Detwntion Center in Kankakee where he'll be processed for federal authorities. He's charged on a federal warrant for cocaine trafficking.

Iroquois County State's Attorney Jim Devine said the State case yielded to the U.S. Marshals, who served a federal arrest warrant (Wednesday) prior to Lopez being released on provisions of the Illinois SAFE-T Act.  Devine explains the State case would have required his office to prove Lopez was a danger to an individual or a community.

State Police stopped a freightliner on I-57 near Ashkum for a safety incpection when 49 pounds of cocaine and fetanyl were found in the semi's cab.  ISP estimated the street value at near $750,000.
