Smokey Mattress Fire in Kankakee

A mattress fire at a 60-unit apartment building in Kankakee alerted firefighters this (Friday) morning.  Emergency responders assisted some residents with medical needs, but no injuries were reported. Kankakee Fire responded to 340 N. Dearborn Avenue at 3:15 am.  The fire was quickly extinguished.  Firemen from Bradley, Bourbonnais and Limestone also answered the mutual aid call.  Smoke removal detail was carried out, according to Kankakee Fire Chief Bryan LaRoche.  EMS personnel from Riverside Ambulance and Aroma Park Fire also assisted at the scene.
