Single-car crash on U.S. 41 kills Dyer man

State police in Indiana report a Dyer, Indiana man died Tuesday after crashing his car on U.S. 41 at Schererville.


51-year-old Al Devries was ejected from his compact car after the crash about 5:30 pm.
Witnesses told police Devries was northbound when he crested a bridge over railroad tracks and his car entered the southbound lanes of U.S. 41.


The car began to spin and went off the west side of the road, coming to rest in a parking lot.
Police said the cause of the crash remains under investigation pending results of an autopsy by the Lake County coroner's office.
