Grade school softball team uninjured
A Ford County crash near Gibson City Saturday morning resulted in the driver of a car dead. A school bus carrying a Hoopeston grade school softball team hit the car, which ran through a yield sign at Illinois Route 9 and County Road 1000 E.
Three other people in the car were injured. Illinois State Police reported none of the 20 students on the bus were seriously injured, although all were taken to area hospitals.
The accident happened about 8:40 am. State Police reported the car’s driver failed to yield, ran into the intersection where it was hit by the bus. One person is dead and several people were hurt after a bus carrying a middle school softball team crashed into a car in Ford County Saturday morning.
According to Illinois State Police, the crash happened at the intersection of IL Route 9 and Ford County 1000E Road near Gibson City shortly after 8:30 a.m.
The bus was transporting 20 students of the Hoopeston school district’s Middle School softball team.
Motorists were urged to find another route while the intersection was closed for the investigation.
