Conservation officials have raised red flags for boaters, swimmers, and other recreation enthusiasts on waterways in parts of Indiana. The hot, dry weather conditions have triggered algae blooms on Lake Shafer at Monticello and at other popular bodies on water.
The White County, IN Health Department warns that these algae blooms could pose a safety threat to people and animals. Officials advise people to avoid boating or swimming in affected areas.
"Children and pets should especially avoid coming into contact with the water, as they are more vulnerable to ingesting the water," according to the health department.
