The Newton County Sheriff’s Office is reporting on Sunday evening, the department was involved in an incident that concluded in Sheldon but resulted in a Newton County Deputy being shot in the line of duty and critically injured. The Illinois State Police have assumed responsibility for this investigation and any additional updates and/or details will be provided through the Illinois State Police.
