Unauthorized Entry at the Kankakee County Administration Building Under Investigation

Two individuals unlawfully gained access to the Kankakee County Administration Building Saturday afternoon. Responding law enforcement officers apprehended both individuals.  No details on damage done inside the building at 189 East Court Street in Kankakee.  A press release states security camera footage indicates the individuals, whose faces were concealed, made unlawful entry through a secure access point. While inside the building, they were encountered by a county department head who was working at the time. The department head immediately contacted authorities. The individuals fled the building but were apprehended a short time later by law enforcement officers.

The Kankakee County Sheriff's Department is leading the investigation. The suspects who damaged county property were detained and charged with criminal damage to government property and burglary. These findings will be forwarded onto the Kankakee County State's Attorney's Office for review.

Kankakee County Board Chairman Matthew Alexander-Hildebrand issued the following statement: "I am grateful that our department head responded quickly and professionally and was not injured during this incident. I also want to commend the Kankakee City Police Department and the Kankakee County Sheriff's Department for their prompt response and coordinated efforts to safely apprehend the suspects. The safety and security of our residents, employees, and county facilities remain our highest priority.”
