A pressurized line leading to an incinerator sparked a fire Monday morning at the Kankakee IKO Roofing manufacturing plant on South Tech Drive. Kankakee Fire Chief Bryan LaRoche reported some kind of mechanical failure.
The fire was under control within about an hour, but three workers were treated for smoke inhalation.
There was no damage estimate available. The manufacturing site produces roofing shingles.
A lot of black smoke resulted from an oil leak from a line extending to the incinerator.
Fire crews responded around 10 am and were at the scene some two hours.
Kankakee Fire was assisted by fire personnel from Bourbonnais, Bradley, Limestone and Riverside Ambulance.
Chief LaRoche reported no hazard concern.
