Dead birds wanted to detect West Nile virus

The Iroquois County Public Health Department is asking the public to help collect dead birds to track potential West Nile virus in Iroquois County.  The usual 'perching birds," crows, blue jays, starlings, robins and cardinals are species that prove to be beneficial in the study.  Deads birds will  be collected now thru October 15.  Dead birds collected should beleived to be dead less than 24 hours and should only be submitted if not damaged by scavengers and are not decomposed.  Questions can be directed to the health department  815-432-2483.
