Parts of Northern Illinois could be dealing with hot, humid conditions this week, prompting the NWS to issue advisories to many people throughout the region. It’s the first prolonged heat wave of the summer. The temps will build today (Monday) and likely continue thru at least Wednesday. Forecasters say afternoon heat index values will climb to around 105 degrees each day, while temperatures will remain uncomfortably warm overnight, offering little relief.
The National Weather Service warned that the combination of daytime heat and warm nights will increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for older adults, young children, people without air conditioning, and those working or spending extended time outdoors.
The Heat Advisory is in effect from noon today (Monday) through 10 pm Wednesday for several counties. Included are Ford, Iroquois, Livingston, Kankakee and Will counties.
Health officials urge residents to drink plenty of water, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, spend time in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible, and check on neighbors and relatives who may be especially vulnerable to the heat. And don’t forget those pets.
