Crescent City native Shawn Poppie named Women's Head Basketball Coach at Clemson

Shawn Poppie has been named the eighth head woman's basketball coach at Clemson University.  Poppie is a Crescent City native from Iroquois County..  He departs from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he went48-18 in his two seasons there with the Women's Mocs program. Included was a 28-win season this year enroute to Chattanooga's second-consecutive Southern Conference Championship.

Poppie alsp spent six seasons as an assistance and associate head coach at Virginia Tech, where he helped  lead the Hokies' turnaround to a top-ten national program. Poppie was also an assistant coach at Furman.

During his time at Chattanooga, Poppe was the architect of one of the most impressive program turnarounds in the nation.  Prior to his arrival, the Mocs won just seven games.  In his first season however, the Chattanooga Mocs recorded qa 20-win season and won the SoCon Tournament. Poppie received national recognition and earned the 2023 Spalding Maggie Dixon NCAA Division i Rookie Coach-of-the-Year award. 

Poppie is considered one of the brightest up-and-coming head coaches in the nation and will now direct the 50th season of Clemson Women's Basketball in 2024-25.

Shawn and his wife, Regina, are the parents of three sons, Kai, Cayden and Cameron.
