Cash Donations Needed Most for Tornado victims

*** While donations are appreciated, too much adds to response and recovery efforts ...

(Undated) -- There's been overwhelming support for tornado victims in Illinois. People have given water, food, and even provided shelter but at this point, officials say the best way to help is by providing a cash donation. They say that'll allow disaster response agencies to purchase exactly what's needed, when it's needed. And as a reminder, anyone who wishes to volunteer in person should NOT go directly to the disaster scene. Unexpected volunteers will interfere with recovery efforts. Volunteers should go to a reputable volunteer agency where they'll be trained and given a specific task. The most crucial need will be for volunteers during the long-term recovery phase, which could last for several months. For more information visit Ready.illinois.gov.
