Watseka Alderman Scott Anderson urges patience, safety during scheduled stop
Watseka Police, Auxiliary officers, and Iroquois County Sheriff's Police will be assisting the Union Pacific Railroad police today (Monday) when the U-P Big Boy locomotive steam engine makes a stop in Watseka. Visitors from near and far are expected to line the Union Pacific line at the North Street crossing during the Big Boy's Midwest Tour. A 30-minute stop is expected at 5 pm.
The Big Boy is touring several states. The U-P line at Watseka is the furthest east the railroad extends, so visitors are expected from several area to th east.
Watseka City Alderman Scott Anderson said "safety is paramount." The Union Pacific requires 25-foot distance between the train tracks and the public viewing the steam locomotive. Officers will enforce the setback. Parking is limited and visitors are required to park in posted legal areas only. The public is also urged to respect local residents private property.
Visitors are also asked to visit local retail outlets and restaurants during their Watseka visit.
