The 88-year-old Watseka who died Monday at the scene of a fire in his backyard suffered a heart attack. Davy Walker died near a brush fire he apparently was trying to extinguish. The man’s death was not due to burns suffered while he tried to stomp out the flames.
Iroquois County Coroner Bill Cheatum said an autopsy was conducted (Wednesday) in McLean County.
Watseka Fire and Riverside Ambulance personnel were dispatched to Walker’s property site on North Jefferson Street regarding a report of a brush fire with a person possibly burned from the fire. Responders found Davy Walker on the ground in debris from the fire. Fire Chief Ken Baier reported it appeared the fire had gotten out of control and the resident had attempted to put the fire out. The man’s death had been ruled an accident.
No other property damage was reported from the fire.
