Attempted Jail break in Vermilion County

Vermilion County Sheriff Pat Hartshorn reports an attempted jail break over the weekend.  An unidentified inmate managed to find his way into a maintenance opening inside a wall used as a pipe chase, then, using a "homemade rope" made from a bedsheet, lowered himself one-story in the building.  His rope, however, was only long enough for the one-story.  He then fell three-stories onto concrete below.

The inmate then was quicly apprehended and taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries to both legs.  No word how serious the injuries were to him.  The attempted-escape is under investigation.
