Rep. Haas measure expands 988 Crisis Lifeline Awareness

The governor has signed legislation sponsored by State Representative Jackie Haas to raise awareness about life-saving resources. Haas said the legislation is to raise awareness about the statewide 988 Suicide and Crisis Helpline.

Haas extends her appreciation for the bipartisan support in both the House and Senate.

Representative Haas said many Illinoisans who are the most in need of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline are unaware that this service exists, and displaying information about this service at pharmacies allows officials to meet patients where they are at and, hopefully, provide an intervention for those facing crisis.

Haas said specifically targeting pharmacies for this effort is due to the number of medications that list suicidal thoughts or increased depression as side effects.

The sign will also be available for download on the Department of Human Services' website. The new law takes effect January 1, 2027.
