Fire Officials urge ‘common sense’
The burn ban issued because of dry, windy conditions was relaxed (Thursday)… but the threat of fires burning out of control is still there, and officials ask people to use caution and some ‘common sense’ before lighting up any flames.
In fact, winds today (Friday) are expected to reach 30-35 mph and drought conditions are ranging from ‘extreme to severe’ in both Iroquois and Ford counties.
The U.S. Drought Monitor reports east-central parts of Illinois still pose a serious threat for dry grounds – that need moisture.
The latest numbers have Ford County, Iroquois County, and much of Champaign and Vermilion counties n the extreme and severe mode. Elevated fire dangers also exist in neighboring Indiana Counties – Benton, Newton, Warren and Jasper.
The better news --- RAIN AND SNOW in the forecast into next week.
