Ford County Reports 1st case of West Nile

— A mosquito has tested positive for West Nile Virus in Ford County, the Public Health Department confirmed on Monday.

The batch was collected from Melvin, according to the health department, and is the first specimen to test positive in the county this year. As of Monday around 5 p.m., the health department said no human cases of West Nile virus have been reported this year.

Residents are asked to be aware of West Nile virus activity in the area, and to take steps to protect themselves and family members from mosquito-borne diseases.  The best way to prevent the disease is to follow the three “R’s,” according to the health department: Reduce, Repel and Report.
