Longtime Watseka Athletic Director and Softball Head Coach Barry Bauer has retired from both roles following the end of the 2025-26 school year. Bauer has spent the last 16 years as athletic director and 24 years as softball head coach in which he had a 333-266 record. Bauer will be staying on as head coach of the Watseka Girls' Basketball program. Longtime Volleyball Head Coach Krista Pufahl will be taking over as Athletic Driector.

As the transition was happening in the athletic director role, Watseka High School announced they will be playing a JV only schedule in football for the upcoming 2026-27 season due to low numbers in the program.

Bauer joined Andy Moore on the Riverside Orthopedic Specialists Saturday Morning Sports Show to talk about this past softball season, his decison to retire as both athletic director and softball head coach, and the news for the Watseka football program.
