Severe weather could hit central and northern Illinois today as well as northern Indiana. The National Weather Service says thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon north of I-74, pushing southeast across the region. Golf ball-sized hail is possible with the strongest storms, and a few strong tornadoes are also possible. During the evening, the severe weather threat will trend toward damaging winds with gusts over 70 miles per hour possible.  Northern parts of Indiana are also targeted.  The enhanced risk runs from the Michigan border to Indianapolis.

Thursday high temps near 86 then an incoming cold front expected to bring rain and storms, gusty winds and hail and isolated tornadoes. High temps Friday only in the low 40s.
