Bourbonnais woman killed in I-80 crash after watching son's Little League game

A Bourbonnais woman is dead, killed in a traffic accident on I-80, after watching her son play Little League baseball.

37-year-old Jamie Leech was on her way back from Moline after watching her son play in a state Little League tournament. She died in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 near LaSalle early Thursday morning.

Illinois State Police at Peru report Leech lost control and rolled her vehicle several times before landing in a ditch. It happened around 6:40 am.

Leech’s son is a member of Bradley-Bourbonnais American's All-Star squad that has been participating in the Little League 9-10 State Tournament.

The tournament games have been postponed indefinitely.

Birkey’s Farm Store Inc. to acquire Farm Pride equipment

Birkey’s Farm Store Inc., a full-line Case IH and Case Construction dealer, has agreed to acquire the Farm Pride network of equipment dealerships.

Farm Pride is currently located in Arthur, Shelbyville, Casey, Newton, and Mattoon. The acquisition is expected to close in mid-August.

“This is a great opportunity for Birkey’s to expand our dealership operations into contiguous territory directly south of our existing footprint,” said Mike Hedge, president and chief executive officer of Birkey’s Farm Store Inc., which has stores throughout Illinois, including in Gibson City.

“We look forward to developing relationships and serving the needs of customers in the Farm Pride territory with the same high level of service that our customers have come to expect from us over the last 62 years,” Hedge added.

Birkey’s Farm Store Inc., founded in 1954, is headquartered in Champaign. The Birkey’s network serves the Illinois communities of Annawan, Bloomington, Galesburg, Gibson City, Henry, Hoopeston, Macomb, Mattoon, Oakland, Polo, Prophetstown, and Urbana, as well as Williamsport, Ind.

Plane crash at Dwight

The FAA will be involved in the investigation of a plane crash overnight at Dwight. A single-engine plan crashed in a bean field.  An Oak Park (IL) woman escaped serious injury.  She was reportedly the lone person onboard.

Dwight fire and other Livingston County emergency responders were on the scene.

Watseka Route 1 bridge project plans overnight closing

The construction of the new bridge over the Iroquois River at Watseka will find the project closing ALL TRAFFIC overnight on August 1.

The bridge traffic, north of Watseka, is limited to a single-lane, controlled by traffic lights.  But as crews prepare to pour concrete for the second span of the project, all traffic will be shut down from 8 pm Monday, August 1 until it reopens at 6 am Tuesday, August 2.

The planned overnight closing is weather permitting.  Motorists should plan to use alternate routes.

SYGMA fire in Danville, damage may exceed $1 million

A Danville fire Wednesday morning may result in damages over $1 million dollars. A storage trailer at the SYGMA Networks Distribution Center on Southgate Drive caught fire, causing damage to the rear of the building.

Public Safety Director Larry Thomason said there is heavy smoke and water damage in the warehouse when the sprinkler system was triggered.

There were no reports of any injuries. Danville Fire officials reported preliminary estimates are that overall damages may exceed one-million dollars. Damage estimates to the storage trailer and rear of the building were placed at $50-thousand dollars apiece. It is inside the building where fire officials say damages may exceed one-million dollars because of smoke and water damage.
