Heavy Windmill Load Overturns in Iroquois County

IllinoisState Police District 21 are reporting that troopers handled a crash at 6:14 p.m. Tuesday evening on Illinois Route 49, just south of 1120 North.  The truck involved in the crash, a 2006 Peterbilt truck, pulling two semi-trailers was loaded with 101,000 pounds of building material for a windmill support base.  The vehicle was traveling southbound when one of the semi-trailers experienced a mechanical failure that led the driver of the truck to lose control of the vehicle.  The truck ran off the roadway and overturned.  The vehicle came to rest on its passenger side in a nearby field. No injuries were reported by the driver, Alfred Damm, 49, of Saint Cloud, Minnesota.

100-year-old Home in Gibson City Destroyed by Fire

GIBSON CITY — A 100-year-old, 2-story Victorian home in Gibson City was destroyed by fire Tuesday morning. 

Firemen from three departments answered the call about 1:40 am to N. Sangamon Avenue. The state fire marshal's office was unable to determine the cause.

Gibson City, Sibley and Elliott responded to the home owned by Lisa Feldman-Hasanin.

The house, which he estimated to be valued at about $150,000, was destroyed.

Momence Woman Hit & Killed While Jogging

42-year-old Gina Wooldridge of Momence died Monday night when hit by a car while jogging. .

Gina Wooldridge was jogging on Wichert Road in Momence Township when she was struck by the car. Kankakee County Coroner Bob Gessner said she was pronounced dead at 9:53 p.m. at Riverside Medical Center.

An autopsy was scheduled.

Area Teens Die in Memorial Weekend Accidents

Holiday traffic accidents killed students in Illinois and Indiana. 

The Vermillion County Indiana Sherriff’s office reports an accident that resulted in the death of 18-year-old Jenna Lumsford of Clinton, IN.  Police said Lumsford and a passenger were leaving the South Vermillion High School graduation ceremony Saturday. The vehicle was on State Road 63, left the road, flipping several times before coming to rest in the northbound lane. Lunsford was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital, where she died of her injuries. The passenger was treated for minor injuries. 

In  Champaign County, Coroner Duane Northrup released the name of a Homer man who died as a result of injuries in an accident last Friday.  17-year-old Brandon Umbarger of Homer died  at Carle Hospital in Urbana on Saturday.

The Champaign County Coroner also identified a 32-year-old Seymour woman, Adeline Zaricor, who died in a pedestrian versus train incident on May 26th.

Herscher Man Dies in Grundy County Crash

Police report a motorcycle - truck crash killed a Herscher man over the weekend.

48-year-old Pete Richards was identified as the victim.  The accident is under investigation.  The crash occurred at Grundy County Roads 3000 E and 3100 N.
