IL/IN HS Football 8/31/12

Many shutouts and lopsided wins in week 2 of Illinois high school football, we start with Bishop McNamara shutting out St. Ignatius 47-0.  Jonnie Evans and Dalton Major combined for 364 yards rushing and 6 TDs.

Bradley-Bourbonnais shut down Kankakee 35-0.  Colin Holderman with 149 yards passing and 2 TD passes, while Jarrod Ware had 2 TD runs.

The Momence Redskins, ranked #4 in the AP Class 2A poll, wiped out Chicago Christian 56-12.  DeAndre Wright scored 5 TDs, and had 316 rushing yards, giving him the Momence and area career rushing mark with 4,630 yards.

Jason Morgan had 4 TDs to lead Manteno to a 41-14 win over Reed Custer.  Peotone got by Seneca 27-20.  Joey Janutis had 2 TDs, one on a kickoff return.  While Danny Beresky also had 2 TDs, one of them on a pick-6. 

Iroquois West goes to 2-0, shutting out Blue Ridge 38-0.  Henry Gerritson rushing for 134 yards, and 2 TDs, one on a 73-yard kickoff return for a score.

Watseka wiped out Paris 49-21.  Daulton DePatis 130 yards rushing and 1 TD, Tanner Martin had a pick-6, and Austin Blair added 65 yards rushing and 4 TDs of his own.

Milford all over Broadlands Heritage 55-6 to go to 2-0.  The Bearcats’ Josh Marquez rushed for 162 yards, and 2 TDs.  QB Jacob Marquez threw for 127 yards, and 3 TD passes.  Also 3 TD runs by Devon Laubscher.

Elsewhere, Wilmington shut out Sandwich 27-0.  Coal City shut out Dwight 41-0.  And Lisle beat Herscher 27-17. 

Central wiped out Salem 55-0 in a lightning-shortened game from 9/1/12. 
J.R. Caspary threw 3 TD passes, Logal Gigl rushed for 135 yards and 2 scores.

As for Indiana Week 3, it was Class A #6 ranked Pioneer all over S. Newton 62-3.  Fountain Central all over Riverton Parke 65-6, Michael Duane with 3 TDs and a safety.  Tipton over Benton Central 47-7. West Central over Tri-County 61-6. Winamac 42, North White 32.  Caston 41, Frontier 6.  And  North Newton easily over Calumet 48-13, Chad Schultz rushed 20 times for 246 yards and 5 TDs.

IW's Gerritson Player of Week

The First Trust and Savings Bank in Watseka and Clifton Player of the Week for the week ending 9/1/12 is SENIOR HENRY GERRITSON OF THE IROQUOIS WEST RAIDERS.

One of the key senior leaders for Coach D.J. Harris' Raiders, Henry has played a big part in the Raiders' 2-0 start, both wins coming on the road. On Sat. 8/25 at Eureka, he had 7 carries for 85 yards, with 2 TD runs in the Raiders' 20-8 victory. Then he followed it up on Friday 8/31 at Blue Ridge with 9 carries for 134 yards rushing, with a 19 yard TD run, and even returned a kickoff 73 yards for another score in the Raiders' 38-0 win.

IL/IN HS Football 8/25/12

Recapping Week 1 of Illinois High School Football, Momence took out Oregon 40-21, and who else, but DeAndre Wright the star of this one.  289 yards rushing, 4 TD runs, and catching 1 TD pass.  Aaron Cantwell also with 2 TD passes for the Redskins.

The Central Comets get a big road win, 42-19, over one of Class 4A’s ranked teams, Prairie Central.  Addison Bounds of the Hawks passed for just over 200 yards and 3 TD passes, but many contributors for the Comets, including Noah Frerichs’ 85 yard kickoff return for a TD, along with a pick and recovering an onside kick.  Logan Gigl 154 yards rushing and a TD run.  And QB J.R. Caspary 112 yards passing and a TD pass in his first varsity start.

Watseka gets a road win in Robinson 25-6.  Austin Blair 200 yards rushing and 2 TDs, Austin Kidwell with 3 sacks and a 79 kickoff return for a score.

Bishop McNamara over Kankakee 49-12.  Jonnie Evans and Dalton Major combined for 215 yards and 6 TDs.

Milford-Cissna Park 41, Oakland 7.  Josh Marquez with a TD run and TD pass, Jake Rogers 117 yards rushing and a TD, and Beau Anderson with 118 all purpose yards and a TD run.

Coal City 13-12 over Wilmington.  The Wildcats missed a game-tying extra point with just over a minute left.  The Coalers’ Jack Dibble and Nate Natyshok each with a TD

Elsewhere, Bradley Bourbonnais 27, Plainfield North 22….Plano 41, Reed Custer 0….Herscher 27, Westmont 13….Peotone 36, Dwight 6……and Manteno over Lisle 34-22, QB Ryan Sample with 336 yards passing and 3 TD passes.

Also Saturday afternoon, Iroquois West beat Eureka 20-8.  Henry Gerritson with 2 TD runs, QB Keaton Zirkle with 1.

And in week 2 in Indiana, the S. Newton Rebels clobbered Frontier 47-0.  Austin Drinski with 2 TD runs, and passed for a 3rd, Nathan Bishop also with 2 socres, and Levi Hall with an 80-yard interception return for a score. 

Benton Central beat Seeger 42-7.  Garrett Gray rushed for 2 TDs, and caught 2 of the 4 TD passes from Brandon Rooze.  Also North Newton lost to Rensselaer Central 56-7.  Pioneer 42, Winamac 14….West Central 41, Caston 20.

Momence's Wright Player of Week

The First Trust & Savings Bank in Watseka and Clifton Player of the Week (for the week ending 8/25/12) is SENIOR DEANDRE WRIGHT OF THE MOMENCE REDSKINS

After spectacular sophomore and junior seasons, DeAndre’s senior year is already off to a flying start.  In Momence’s season opening win over Oregon, he rushed for 289 yards on 28 carries… scored 4 rushing touchdowns of 3,5,3, and 14 yards… and also caught 1 TD pass of 12 yards, giving him 70 touchdowns for his career, cracking the top 20 list for Illinois High School Football.

Indiana HS Football scores 8/17/12

In the Battle of Newton County, North Newton jumped out to a 16-0 lead, then South Newton scored 20 points of their own to take a 4 point lead into the 4th quarter, but then the Spartans scored 17 more unanswered points to take the 37-20 win over the Rebels.  Senior Chad Schultz, the workhorse for North Newton, rushed for 122 yards on 24 carries, had TD runs of 9 and 59 yards, along with an 80-yard punt return for a TD.

Also contributing for the Spartans, Jesse Bigger with a 1st quarter safety; a 60-yard-punt return for a TD by Vince Duminie, and a 1 yd TD run from Jeremy Jones. 

For the Rebels in defeat, senior Austin Drinsky with a 95-yard kickoff return for a TD, along with a 3 yd TD run.  And another 3-yard TD run by Ricky Montemayer for the last Rebel score.  The Rebels will play Friday at Frontier, who have their lost their last 11 games.

In other area games Friday from Indiana:  Lafayette Central Catholic, the 3-time defending Class A State Champions, cruised to a 52-7 win over Delphi.  Brad Schrader scoring 4 TDs, Andrew Hubertz with 2, as the Knights win their 46th straight game.  That is the 2nd longest streak in Indiana high school history, and currently 3rd longest in the country.

West Central 41, Culver 21:  Michael Hamilton 215 yards rushing, 3 TDs, and threw for another score to lead the Trojans.

North White 37, Taylor 15:  Busy night for the Vikings’ Colin Hileman; he ran 96 yards for a game-opening TD; threw a 16-yard TD pass, ran 58 yards for another score.  And finished with 158 yards on 3 carries, was 3 of 7 passing for 69 yards, and led the D with 16 tackles.

North Montgomery 32, Benton Central 6;Nick Fischbach returned a blocked punt 2 yards for the Bison’s only score. 

Carroll Flora 41, Tri-County 19; Fountain Central 21, Southmont 18, junior Jack Bolin’s 1 yard TD run won it late for the Mustangs.

Clinton Prairie 34, Frontier 8:  Cole Fesler & Luke Cain connected on a 95-yard TD pass in the 4th for the only Falcon score.

In other scores:  Winamac 26, Knox 9; Caston 28, Triton 20.  And a couple of upsets Friday:  Lewis Cass shocked the #2 ranked team in Class A Indiana, Pioneer, 33-12.  Boone Grove, in only their 2nd year of varsity play, gave Wheeler its first regular season loss since 2007, the final 30-12.  The Wolves’ Cody Poynter rushed for 212 yards on 26 carries, scoring all 4 of his team’s TDs.
