“Myron Deckard Rest Area” honors fallen deputy

The House of Representatives has voted to name rest areas along Interstate 72 between Champaign and Decatur as the ''Sergeant Myron G. Deckard Memorial Rest Area.''

Myron Deckard was a Vermilion County Sheriff Sgt. killed in the line of duty 14 years ago.

The legislation was sponsored by State Representative Chad Hays of Catlin. Hays educated his House members that ''Sergeant Deckard was shot and killed in the line of duty while transporting a prisoner along I-72 from Macon County to Vermilion County,'' Hays added, ''He was a valued member of the Vermilion County Sheriff's Department for 32 years and is very deserving of this honor.''

Momence drug investigation nets 4 arrests

A four-week undercover investigation in Momence now has four people facing drug charges. Two vehicles and money were recovered when arrest warrants were served at three locations.

Momence police report 33-year-old Francisco Gonzalez of Kankakee; 25-year-old Karla Gonzalez of St. Anne; and 36-year-old Blaine MacDonald of Grant Park; were arrested. Manteno and Bourbonnais police departments were part of the case.

Charges include possession and intent to deliver cannabis.
Momence police were assisted in the undercover investigation by the Watseka Enforcement Team.

Paxton meth bust leads to 3 arrests

A rolling meth lab finds three men facing charges in Ford County. The illegal lab was discovered during a traffic stop early Sunday morning in downtown Paxton.

Paxton Police Chief Bob Bane reports his agency conducted a traffic stop a little before 1 am on North Market Street Sunday. Bane said a "working, cooking meth lab" was inside.

20-year-old Eugene Forbes III of Rankin was arrested. Police identified two passengers as 31-year-old Christina Reardon of Paxton; and 26-year-old Christopher Searcy of Rankin.

All three are charged with one count each of unlawful participation in methamphetamine production...unlawful possession of anhydrous ammonia...and unlawful possession of methamphetamine.

Power outages reported in Ford, Iroquois, Kankakee counties

Ameren Illinois reported electrical outages in several cities in Ford, Iroquois and even in Kankakee county today (Tues).

The immediate cause wasn't available, but the freezing ice build-up appeared to be a factor. Several businesses and select neighborhoods were left without service at different times this morning. Some had power back on in a hurry.

There were a total of about 2,300 outages. In Ford County, a total of about 900 outages were reported in Gibson City, Melvin and Roberts. Watseka neighborhoods reported outages. And in Kankakee, select businesses lost service too.

Fatal Car-Train Collision

A weekend car-train collision left an Alvin man dead. 52-year-old Larry Watson was identified as the victim, according to Vermilion County Sheriff's Police.

Deputies reported Watson was driving along 2950 North Road near Alvin just before 1 am Saturday when he apparently pulled into the path of a CSX freight train. There were no injuries to members of the train crew.

The crash remains under investigation.
