Kankakee County Board Chairman Andy Wheeler is announcing his plan to step away from county government. He told the Daily-Journal he will not seek re-election to his District 15 seat in November. And – he might be making a bid for the Kankakee Mayor’s office.
Wheeler is putting together an exploratory committee to maybe seek the mayor’s office as a Republican candidate next spring. He has served as County Board Chairman since 2016. He joined the county board in 2012. If he goes after the Kankakee mayor’s job, Wheeler would join city alderman Chris Curtis on the Republican ballot.
