Danville bank building among Illinois historic places

It overlooks Danville's skyline.  It's a tradition in the Vermilion County city.  And the former First National Bank Building is among the state's best, added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Today, it's called the Collins Tower. The downtown building previously known as Bresee Tower is among the 30 properties the Illinois Departent of Naturual Resources is celebrating as add-ons to the list of Historic Places.

The 12-story building is being renovated.  One of the new owners, Jeri Collins, says plans are to locate a restaurant on the first floor and then have residential apartments on other floors. Estimated cost for the work is $7 - $9-million dollars.

The Historical Places listing says the former courthouse annex buildings is a classic example of the Cl;assical Revival style. It was built in 1918. It was added to the National Registry in September of 2018.
