Residents of Will County and north are bracing for what could be one of the biggest snowstorm in the past three years. The Friday morning commute already has reports of 10 inches and more. I-DOT truck have been out overnight trying to keep up with the falling snow.
A winter storm warning took effect starting at 6 pm Thursday evening and will last through Friday night at 9 pm. The system could drop between 8-15 inches of snow.
Forecasters say it’s a relatively narrow band of heavy snow that will lead to difficult to impossible travel conditions and poor visibility. The cut-off point appeared to be the Will-Kankakee County line. Several school closings and cancellations are reported in Will County. You are asked to avoid unnecessary travel but if you must travel you are told to use extreme caution and allow plenty of time to reach your destination.
Kankakee County had reports of just a quarter to half-inch of snow early today. A series of systems over the weekend could bring 1-3 inches.
