Watseka park District: Let’s Gain it Back and Give

The Watseka Park District will be hosting a Let’s Gain It Back drive in the parking lot of the Watseka Park District on Wednesday, December 6 from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The drive is an effort to replace at least 1000 pounds of food lost to theft and vandalism at the Martinton Food Pantry.

The drive came from discussion in the park district office regarding how awful the act was and especially during the holiday season and as the discussion continued the only reasonable was to help right the wrong was to replace some of the items that were taken.

“Bill Wilczynski and I were talking about what happened at the Martinton Food Pantry and about the fact today was the day to give back and we decided everyday should be a day to give back”, said Executive Director Sherry Johnson, so I called Carla Pritzey, and I asked her if she would be upset if we did a food drive to replace some of the items that they lost and she elaborated on what was taken and destroyed and she said she would be thankful.” It was Let’s Gain it Back on. We started making phone calls and made a flyer and before an hour passed we had a trailer donated for the collections, a tent for the parking lot and a list of volunteers started for the day.

“I am so excited! I’m energized at the thought of how much good we can accomplish!” said Johnson, “Everyday we can turn things around!”

Donations will be accepted from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the parking lot at the Watseka Park District on Wednesday, December 6. We will also accept checks made out to the Martinton Food Pantry. Our goal is replacing 1000 pounds of non-perishable food. We will also have our Toys for Tots collection boxes available and will still accept pajamas for our Jammin Christmas. Giving is not just about making a donation. Giving is about making a difference.
