Will County officials: Boyfriend charged with concealing homicide of Mokena bartender found shot

A Will County Sheriff’s Department press release today states a 32-year-old Coal City man has been named in a warrant charging him with concealing a homicide in the shooting death of 24-year-old Kaitlyn Kearns. Authorities report the New Lenox Township woman had been dating the Coal City man just recently.

Kankakee County State’s Attorney Jim Rowe confirmed that Jeremy Boshears is being charged in the death of Kaitlyn Kearns. Her body was discovered early Thursday in a rural part of the county, near St. Anne.

An arrest warrant lists Boshears bail at $250,000.
Will County sheriff’s investigators Thursday said they had one “person of interest” in the case.

The concealment charge is a Class 3 felony and could carry a sentence of probation or up to three years in prison if convicted.

The Will County State’s Attorney’s Office says it’s an ongoing investigation. Additional charges are possible.
Kearns, who had been missing since early Monday after tending bar, was found dead in a rural part of Kankakee County during an overnight search, Will County sheriff's police said Thursday. Kearns had been shot once in the head, according to the Kankakee County coroner's office.

The Will County state’s attorney’s office Friday afternoon said that sheriff’s detectives used “electronic means” to local Kearns’ 1996 Jeep Cherokee in a pole barn on private property in Aroma Park Township in Kankakee Township. The woman’s body was discovered in the back of the vehicle, according to a news release.

Detectives do not believe the owner of the property was involved or had knowledge of the concealment.
