Bourbonnais fire leaves six people homeless

A single-story house was gutted by fire Friday, leaving a family of six homes in Bourbonnais. The American Red Cross is assisting two adults and four children who lived on Cardinal Drive.

Bourbonnais Fire Protection District personnel were called at 6:14 a.m. to 1602 Cardinal Drive, for a fire in the two-car garage.

Bourbonnais Fire Chief Ed St. Louis said his department responded to a garage fire about 6:15 am. Firemen found the structure engulfed in flames. The family was able to get out and call 9-1-1.
St. Louis said there was smoke damage to the house's attic and kitchen. He estimated damage at between $60,000 and $70,000.

Investigators were looking for the cause.
