Milford coach, Spezia, hurt in crash

Milford High School basketball coach John Spezia was injured in a traffic crash over the holiday period. The 63-year-old coach was air-lifted to Carle Hospital in Urbana after initial treatment at the Carle-Hoopeston Regional Hospital.

A condition report from Carle Hospital was not available.

The accident happened Tuesday in Hoopeston. Police report it was a two-vehicle crash.

Hoopeston Police report the crash occurred in the 900 block of South Dixie Highway, just south of the Route 1 and 9 intersection. A second driver, 69-year-old Richard Samet of Hoopeston, was not injured.

Police say Samet was driving a pickup truck and was attempting a turn into a business lot when Spezia's vehicle was hit.
