Weekend violence: shootings in Kankakee, Peoria, Chicago

Weekend gunplay not only made news in Chicago and Indianapolis, but also in Peoria and Kankakee.

Reports of 71 people shot and at least a dozen dead in Chicago. City leaders again addressing the problem during an afternoon press conference. The riverfront in Peoria was also a problem area. Eleven people were shot early Sunday. Six men, seven women were treated for injuries. Police said it erupted after two women argued and it escalated. All the victims are expected to recover. Police were searching for suspects.

In Kankakeeā€¦. City Police say six locations experienced shots being fired. It all happened Sunday morning. Two men were treated for wounds at a local hospital after gunplay erupted at a house party on S. Poplar Avenue around 1 am. North Hobbie Avenue is where more shots rang out. Then more police response for shots fired on Industrial Drive. Police did recover spent shell casings while police learned from witnesses that the shots came from two vehicles. Police also reported more shots fired on N. Myrtle Avenue and on S. Dearborn Avenue. Still more spent casings were recovered after shots were fired on South 4th Avenue.

On the Peoria Riverfront, two women argued and the incident escalated.  Several men and women were injured.  All are expected to recover.  No arrests were made.
