Sheriff Childress visits the White House

An Illinois county sheriff was a guest of President Donald Trump Monday.  Livingston County Sheriff Tony Childress was part of a roundtable discussion about policing in America. Livingston County Sheriff Tony Childress said his policing ideology is to be a friend in the community, support the community with programs, and to always be there with an open ear.

Sheriff Childress had an opportunity to thank President Donald Trump for being supportive of law enforcement.  The sheriff was one of about six law enforcement officials from across the country invited to the roundtable discussion which also included V-P Mike Pence, Attorney General William Barr and senior advisor Jared Kushner.  Trump asked for the meeting to discuss ways to improve community relations between law enforcement and the community.

Transcripts made available by the White House shows Sheriff Childress telling the President, "we are happy to sit down with you and to try and do everything we can to make this nation better, by keeping the community safe and by working with you and the nation to make a better place."
