Sharp increase in area COVID cases

Iroquois County now has 1,045 confirmed cases of COVID-19. The health department reported 102 new cases Monday. One additional death raises the local death count to 25. Health officials still saying many of the latest cases are connected to various homecoming events or weddings. And the public is asked to refrain from any large get-togethers; they’re adding to the increase in numbers of people becoming affected.

Kankakee County reported 754 new cases Monday; two more deaths (88). The total case count in Kankakee County is at 6,722.

Illinois Department of Public Health officials reported 11, 632 new cases Monday, with 37 additional deaths. (The deaths included an Iroquois County female in her 60’s, Will County had a female in her 90’s die.

Livingston County Public Health reported an inmate from the Pontiac Correctional Facility died of the virus. As we reported Monday, several communities in Livingston County have been reporting big increases in COVID. Pontiac Fairbury, Dwight and Chatsworth had double-digit confirmed cases.

There have Also been sharp jumps in cases in Indiana --- 29 more cases in Jasper County Monday; 20 in White, Newton had 11 more and eight in Benton County.
