Sgt. Jeremy Cain Sherman, 23, of Watseka among military American casualties

Watseka native, Army Sgt. Jeremy Sherman, is identified as one of five American soldiers killed in a helicopter crash in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula Thursday. Officials report the crash happened during a peacekeeping mission. The five Americans were among seven peacekeepers killed when one of the Black Hawk helicopters crashed. An eighth soldier, also an American, was seriously injured. No immediate identification on the 8th soldier. The names of French and Czechoslovakia peacekeepers who were killed were not released pending family notification.

The Army identified the soldiers today (Saturday) as:
• Capt. Seth Vernon Vandekamp, 31, from Katy, Texas
