Watseka and the Iroquois County area can reflect on the life of John "Jack" Swan Saturday in Watseka.  Jack was a friend to many and was a loving husband and father. His civic involvement was so recognizable over the years as an active member of the American Legion, VFW, Shriners, Boy Scouts and a 32nd Degree Mason. He served as Commander of the Legion twice, a 58-year lifetime member.  He was named Legionaire of the Year in 1985. Jack passed away July 26 in Cape Coral, Florida from complications of COVID-19.

Jack Swan served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre from 1943-47.

A Time of Remembance is set for Saturday (August 8) from 2-4 pm at the Veteran's Memorial in Legion Park in Watseka. Navel Honorary Rights are scheduled for 4 pm. Private Burial is at Glen Cemetery in Paxton.

Jack Swan was a 30-plus year employee for CIPS (Central Illinois Public Service Co) and then Ameren.  As a long-time volunteer, he was that guy everyone loved to support during Poppy Days for the Legion.  He was the lead for maintenance effort projects at Legion Park, including the rebuild of the bridge over the lagoon and planting of trees throughout the park.  Jack earned Citizen-of-the-Year honors and later honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his dedicated activities.  RIP
