Today marks 19-years since the airplane terror attacks in New Yor, Washington DC. and Pennsylvania.  And 19 years later, we still don't poitive identifications for more than 11-hundred of the 2,753 World Trade Center victims who died. The current pandemic has reshaped the annual ritual remembrance.  But so, so many people still take time to reflect.

Watseka's Dave Mayotte was a rookie fire chief back then. Hed was just named the city fire chief a month earlier.  He says he'll never forget the firemen/women lost that day.  Iroquois County Sheriff Derek Hagen felt the somber mood in the law enforcement community then, while he was serving in Champaign County. He says we don't want to become complacent.  We all have to ready to keep this from ever happening again. Nita Dubble was Iroquois County 9-1-1 Coordinator then, saying it was an unsteady day for radio operators all worried about emergency responders at the Twin Towers and the Pentagon.

A six-year-old back then, Taylor Eades was at school and remembers her dad coming, in a panic, to get her at Kindergarten and her family scared wondering what was next.

Moments of silence were recognized across the country during this day of remembering. The American heroes at work, emergency responders, volunteers all stepping up to do their jobs -- not even thinking about the dangers.  Instead, they were saving lives and tending to thousands of injured people.
