A Champaign County community has agreed to refurbish a ballistic missile that has been a mainstay at a local airfield. Rantoul city officials have hired an auto body shop to beautify a deteriorating Minute Man Missile that was installed at Chanute Air Force Base in 1966. The air base closed in the early 1990s. The missile remained but has become distressed over the years. The cost to renovate the missile is $47,0000.
