A Crete (IL) man was killed in a plane crash near Beecher Monday afternoon. The Will County Coroner’s Office identifies the victim as 84-year-old John Van Kalker. He was the pilot of a single passenger aircraft that came down ¼ mile south of West Offner Rd. in Beecher. There were reports of engine problems prior to the crash. The plane had taken off from Bult Field in Monee. An autopsy has been scheduled for June 9th. The Federal Aviation Administration was assisted by the Will County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.
