NAACP meets with Law Enforcement

NAACP President Theodis Pace is encouraged by the communication between the organization and police agencies in Kankakee County. Pace directed another meeting at the local Law & Justice Center in Kankakee yesterday (Thursday). The NAACP has vowed to work with law enforcement to keep police policy and communication expectations on the same page.

What’s happened elsewhere, Pace said, is not going to happen here. The past is the past, he said, we’ll change to make today better. Communication between police and the NAACP will always focus to keep things professional.

The local officials are staying focused on efforts to create civilian review boards. Each community in the county would endorse its own authority to conduct independent investigations. The NAACP’s Ten Shared Principles has been adopted by the Illinois Chiefs of Police Association. The principles, Pace explains, builds a bridge of trust between law enforcement and the community.
