U.S. Congressman Adam Kinzinger said (Thursday) the closings of Byron and Dresden power plants is "a gut-punch to the people of Illinois, especially the counties that sirround these generating stations. Hundreds of people will be left without jobs. And our efforts to produce clean, affordable, safe nuclear energy will be crushed."

The comment comes after the announcement (Thursday) that the two generating stations will close in 2021, 

Illinois State Senator Sue rezin also said " this is a devastating economic blow to our econimy, impeding Illinois' ability to achiev our clean energy goals."  

Exelon Corporation announced its intentions to close the generating stations in late 2021.
