Kankakee police investigate weekend shootings

Shootings in Kankakee Saturday and Sunday are under investigation. Around 3:30 Saturday morning, police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of the 700 block of South Gordon Avenue (southeast side). Two people were taken to area hospitals with gunshot wounds. Reports had the shots coming from a vehicle that fled the area.
At about 2:30 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the 400 block of South Rosewood Avenue for a report of shots fired. One person had been shot in the leg. Again, shots came from a passing vehicle. At about 2 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a fight in the 400 block of East Oak Street. A 30-year-old male was taken into custody after running. Officers did recover a loaded handgun. The suspect was charged with weapons offenses including aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.
