Kankakee: Health Department preps for vaccine distribution

The Kankakee County Health Department Administrator John Bevis says they’re excited and ready to implement their plan to get the vaccine to the public. Much of the plan will be education and getting the needed information out there for everyone to understand. Daily planning and communication now finds the vaccination-plan ready to move forward.

Bevis said “it’s amazing, really historical on what’s about to happen.”

Illinois is about to receive 109,000 doses in the initial shipment. Chicago gets 23,000 doses and then 86,000 divided among the state’s top 50 counties with the highest percentage death rates. (As reported, Kankakee and Iroquois County are among those 50 counties).

As distribution plans unfold, health officials point to emergency plans, drafted and tested for years. The CDC and state and local emergency operation plans (EOP’s) will be tested for efficiency in meeting the needs of the public.
